An Attack On Our Freedom To Vote
Whether we live in Athens, Ashtabula or Akron, most Ohioans believe that every eligible person should have the freedom to vote.
But MAGA politicians are trying to keep us from voting because they know they have a losing agenda.
They’ve kicked registered voters off the rolls; drawn district lines to weaken the power of Black and brown votes; added new hurdles to voting early and by mail; and on June 11th, Trump’s FBI raided the Ohio Organizing Collaborative (OOC) - Ohio’s largest voter registration program.
We've seen this playbook before: when self-serving politicians are losing, they lie and lash out.
When voters reject them,they go after the organizations that make voting accessible.
But in Ohio, voters choose our leaders. Politicians do not get to choose which voters count.
We stand with every Ohioan working to protect the freedom to vote, because our future depends on the decisions we make together.
We’re saying to the ruling regime: Keep your hands off Ohio. Keep your hands off our vote.
They Know They Are Losing, So They Lie and Lash Out
When self-serving politicians cannot win on the strength of their ideas, they try to change the rules, silence their critics, and intimidate the people helping our communities exercise our freedom to vote.
Voting rights organizations in Ohio have spent decades helping Ohioans build power together.
Their campaigns have helped lower health care costs for Ohio families, secure more funding for child care and public schools, remove barriers that keep punishing formerly incarcerated people after they have completed their sentences, and register hundreds of thousands of Ohioans to vote.
These organizations are rooted in communities across the state, from big cities like Columbus and Cleveland to small towns like New Philadelphia.
That is exactly why the ruling regime is targeting them.
A political party courts our votes. An authoritarian regime tries to keep us from voting.
This Is Part of a Bigger Pattern
The raids on OOC are the latest example of broader effort to rig the rules to silence critics and intimidate people who help voters participate in elections.
Trump’s Department of Justice charged 15 anti-ICE protesters in Minnesota with conspiracy to impede or injure a federal officer. In New York, ICE agents quested a poll worker over a social media post. The Department of Justice is pressing states to turn over sensitive voter information and most recently, sent letters warning election officials that they face prosecution if noncitizens cast votes.
We will not let intimidation decide our elections.
